Oxytetracycline (as the hydrochloride) 100mg/mL in an aqueous solution for injection.
Oxytetracycline affects rapidly growing organisms by binding to their ribosomes and interfering with bacterial protein synthesis. Oxytetracycline is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic. Susceptible organisms include Gram+ve and Gram-ve bacteria and some protozoa, rickettsia, mycoplasmas and chlamydiae.
Treatment of infections caused by organisms sensitive to oxytetracycline, particularly respiratory and urinary tract infections, septicaemia, mastitis and foot rot in cattle and pigs.
Severe liver or kidney insufficiency. Hypersensitivity to tetracyclines.
Administer by i/m or SLOW i/v injection. Give intramuscular injection in food-producing animals into the anterior half of the neck.
CALVES: 20mg/kg (1mL/5kg b.w).
ADULT CATTLE: 10mg/kg (1mL/10kg b.w).
PIGS: 20mg/mL (1mg/5kg b.w).
Repeat as necessary for 2–3 injections at 24–48 hour intervals. Administer no more than 20mL at any one injection site.
Occasional anaphylactic or allergic reactions can occur with the use of oxytetracycline in hypersensitive animals. Adrenaline, antihistamines and/or corticosteroids are indicated in such cases. Use of tetracyclines during the period of tooth development, including late pregnancy, may cause tooth discolouration. Intravenous injections administered too rapidly may cause cardiac arrhythmias.

MEAT: Cattle and pigs producing meat and offal for human consumption must not be sold for slaughter either during treatment or within 14 days of the last treatment.
